“My parents sacrificed everything they had to come to America to provide me with the best education possible. It is due to their sacrifice and the incredible teachers I met along my educational journey that I am who I am today. I want to give back. I want to make sure every child has the same opportunities that I had.”
Monica Lee has focused on performance management in her first six months at Chicago Public Schools. Specifically, she has helped launch and support school-based performance management processes as the Director of Area Performance Management. Lee is transitioning to an Elementary Area to directly support the launch of School PM within 10-15 schools in that area. Prior to joining The Broad Residency, Lee was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company. At McKinsey, Lee focused on developing growth strategies for leading non-profit organizations and educational foundations as well as leading organization-wide performance transformations for Fortune 500 companies in the travel, financial services, and healthcare sectors. In addition, while at McKinsey, Lee helped develop and implement a new professional development program for consultants across McKinsey’s Midwest office, launched Ashoka Day, a new partnership between McKinsey and Ashoka social entrepreneurs, and lead recruiting for women’s college. Previously, Lee worked as a middle school math teacher through Teach For America and helped manage a venture capital program for women entrepreneurs in the New England area. Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Amherst College and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. Lee is a participant in The Broad Residency in Urban Education (Class of 2009-2011), serving her two-year Residency at Chicago Public Schools.
